Saltwater Atlas is a collaborative installation by Karin van der Molen and Elena Redaelli for the 2026 Taoyuan Land Art Festival.
The work takes shape through the participation of many people. Each participant is invited to cast their arm and hand in a gesture of holding and pulling, becoming part of a shared act of connection. These gestures form a large installation shaped by many bodies, joined together by a red marine rope.
At the centre of Saltwater Atlas is the sea, understood not only as a landscape, but as a body of water where personal memories meet the histories of labour, migration, coastal life, and care. The project reflects on how the ocean enters personal memories and collective stories, shaping relationships between people and distant shores.
