Vestige

"Vestige is a cooperative creation between Elena Redaelli and Chi-Hao Pai: Sen Sense Lab, a Taiwanese artist who collects vegetation and tells fascinating folktales and cultural stories through his creations to promote pure communication between the land and human beings. He has devoted himself to experimenting with different possibilities for expressing his perspectives while exploring the relationship between humans and Mother Earth. During their residency in Treasure Hill, they presented a pure way to respond to the history of Treasure Hill village. In touch with how time and Nature have been imprinted in this place, they metaphorically described "the old house on the plaza border contains everything, as it walks along the changeable timeline, which was once inside is presently outside. The process of growth and becoming ruins constantly rotates, with light passing deeper and shadows passing further. Everything reflects the memories that all once belonged here, regardless of the footsteps of man or the trajectories of Nature." With this impression, the two artists get acquainted with the Earth and better understand the role that Nature plays to return to the space's fundamental substance, where time and objects trace their own organic development. They invite visitors to enter the realm of Treasure Hill to participate in their work and ask everyone to touch these traces with his/her own hands. By taking care of mosses, they expect to lead visitors into their own transformation of the personal figures that they will become, once again and ultimately, a part of our Nature. In the meantime, the two artists use cotton threads and soil as a medium, stuffing them into cracks to guide visitors to pursue these former tracks. About the installation, not only are all of the bricks and discarded objects from Treasure Hill thoroughly covered, but a series of images are also displayed in both artificial and natural spaces, where both are beautifully piled and intertwined to compose memorable marks and scars."
